How to Handwash your Lingerie 💦

How to handwash your Lingerie (the right way)! Keep your delicate pieces looking beautiful for longer...

When it comes to caring for your lingerie, nothing beats a good old-fashioned hand wash. Whether it’s a lace bralette or embroidered knicker from your Miss Vivienne collection, gentle washing helps preserve shape, colour, and fabric quality — so you can feel fabulous in your favourites for years to come.

Why Hand Washing Matters

Lingerie is often made from delicate materials like lace, mesh, satin, or silk. Machine washing — even on a delicate cycle — can cause stretching, snagging, or fading. Hand washing is not only kinder, but also extends the life of your lingerie.

What You’ll Need:

  • A clean sink or basin
  • Cool to lukewarm water
  • Gentle detergent (free from harsh chemicals or bleach)
  • A clean towel

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Fill your basin
Add cool or lukewarm water and a small amount of gentle detergent. Mix until it dissolves fully.

2. Soak your lingerie
Submerge your items and gently swirl them for a minute. Let them soak for about 10–15 minutes.

3. Rinse thoroughly
Drain the soapy water and rinse each piece under cool running water until it’s clear of detergent.

4. Press, don’t wring
Gently press out the water — never twist or wring your lingerie, as this can damage delicate fibres.

5. Lay flat to dry
Place your lingerie on a clean towel, roll it up to absorb excess moisture, then lay it flat to air dry. Avoid direct heat or sunlight.

Bonus Tips:

  • Wash similar colours together.
  • Spot clean lace with extra care.
  • Avoid fabric softeners — they can break down elastic over time.
